Burlington sits at the west end of Lake Ontario, between Hamilton and Oakville in Halton Region. The Niagara Escarpment rises behind a low lakeshore of parks and a downtown pier. It is a largely residential city with a small downtown and industrial lands toward Hamilton. About 190,000 people live in Burlington.
