Edmundston is a city in northwestern New Brunswick at the confluence of the Madawaska and Saint John rivers, opposite Madawaska, Maine. A strongly Francophone Madawaska culture, pulp-and-paper heritage, and cross-border ties define the place. Highways 2 and 144 meet in a compact valley downtown. About 16,000 people live in Edmundston.
