L’Assomption is a city in Québec’s Lanaudière region, on the L’Assomption River northeast of Montréal. It grew from a seigneurial parish into a regional service centre with a historic core and newer suburbs along Autoroute 40 approaches. The river and remaining farmland still shape the city’s edges.
